Tara Shackleton
Tara began volunteering for Western Sky in 2006. She quickly joined the Lands Committee lending her experience in the field of Agrology. She assisted with outreach events, property workbees, fundraising, and the first phase of the Bow & Beyond Initiative, before being asked to join the board. The early days of the board required members to take on active roles in managing day to day tasks. Tara assisted in vetting and hiring contractors for Baseline Assessments and weed control work on some of Western Sky's earliest conserved properties, in addition to helping with large fundraisers. After serving one term on the board, Tara stepped back to focus on her young family and career. She remained a friend of Western Sky and continued to assist with fundraisers and outreach events. Tara began contracting for Western Sky in 2020 when she was asked to create an annual monitoring program. In addition to managing the monitoring program, she also helps with grant writing and new projects. Tara continues to give back to the community as an active volunteer for the Grassland Restoration Forum, Parks Canada (Waterton Lakes), her children's schools, and her children's sports clubs. In her spare time, Tara enjoys skiing, swimming, camping, canoeing, and rafting.
