Conservation in the Rosebud River Valley is ongoing

Meet some special Albertans who steward land especially well. They are the farmers and ranchers of this province who sustain us. They also nurture and honour their familial lands in the Rosebud. Western Sky is proud to partner with landowners in this special community.

What We Do

As an Alberta based land trust, Western Sky protects critical watersheds in the region. We conserve vital habitats and provide managed public access for recreation and education. We also work with other Alberta agencies and organizations to further protect and enhance natural areas. We champion the conservation of environmentally sensitive lands that support the health of our watersheds.

We are a unique conservancy focused on protecting vital river corridors in southern Alberta. We are a land trust established by Albertans, for Alberta landowners.

Why We Do It

Western Sky was created in the fall of 2005 at the request of Calgary region landowners and the general public who were concerned about the rate at which treasured Alberta landscapes were being lost. Forming an alliance with these landowners, and like-mind conservation organizations, private citizens, government and corporate partners, Western Sky began to conserve open space and natural areas in southern Alberta, particularly within the Calgary region.
Our approach to conservation is adaptive and flexible. We work with landowners to tailor a conservation plan to specifically meet their needs. Besides the generous support from landowners and Western Sky’s volunteers, our organization is funded by donations, grants and in-kind contributions from individuals, corporations, government and other not-for-profits.
